Phillip J. Zisook

zisookPhillip Zisook represents clients in defamation, libel, slander, privacy, speech and First Amendment cases. A Chicago attorney for more than 30 years, Phil joined Deutsch, Levy & Engel in 1992. Phil also represents clients in  trials and appeals involving employment, copyright, trademark and general commercial  matters, including restrictive employment covenants, contracts, fraud, false advertising,  and business torts.

In media law, First Amendment and constitutional cases, Phil was selected as an Illinois Super Lawyer in 2005 and 2006.

Phil has represented television networks and print media entities in defamation, copyright and trademark infringement matters, including cases involving internet piracy in which he successfully secured temporary, preliminary and permanent injunctions for clients.

In representing a television programmer in a breach of contract case against EchoStar Satellite Company (Dish Network), Phil and fellow DLE partners Brian Saucier and Paul Levy won a jury award of more than $2.1 million in damages and attorneys fees. In the same case, we successfully defended EchoStar’s $22 million defamation counterclaim.  In another media defamation case, Phil and partners Paul Levy and Brian Saucier represented Chicago Bear Keith Van Horne against radio personality Mancow Muller for libel, resulting in a settlement of $1.6 million based upon on-air defamatory statements Muller broadcast throughout Chicago.  Phil also represented several outdoor advertising clients in a First Amendment challenge to a Chicago Ordinance banning alcohol and tobacco billboards, and has represented prominent physicians, attorneys, individuals, businesses and labor organizations in a variety of  libel, slander and privacy cases.

Brian D. Saucier

saucierWith a concentration in commercial litigation including First Amendment and defamation, privacy, trademark and copyright law, Brian Saucier represents clients in a wide range of speech and intellectual property issues.

Brian joined Deutsch, Levy & Engel, Chartered in 1994 and became a Principal in 2003.  He has represented clients in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels.  Brian also represents clients in intellectual property transactions, including assignments, domestic and international licensing, and registration and maintenance of trademarks and copyrights.  He also counsels clients on e-commerce issues, such as domain name maintenance and protection, website terms of service provisions, adherence to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and other Internet-related matters.

Mr. Saucier has represented media and commercial clients in asserting their First Amendment rights, represented media entities in libel and slander cases and has represented physicians, lawyers, professionals, businesses and labor organizations in defamation and privacy cases.
